The Holy Man

My lips call him by a different name; your mind believes it so,
You say truth I refuse to accept, history I do not know.
But though ignorance sets its limits and self-truths can deceive,
I know the importance of his existence and what it is to believe.

But yet we each believe that our personal names of him
Are somehow better than the other,
We believe that we invest faith in our God,
When we give him power over another.

So we preach the ills of one religion, and then set it to rights with our own,
We arrogantly inform the spiritually mistaken;
With our principles unknown.
And we quote the scriptures day and night,
And we fiercely justify the holy books of time,
But somewhere in the middle of our enlightenment,
The teachings become disfigured in our mind.

But we believe that it’s passion for our God
That drives us to denigrate what others say and do,
We firmly believe that there is only one saviour,
And he is coincidentally the one who we worship and pray to.

So whose God is better, whose holy one is right and real?
I say God is who we make him; he is what we think and feel.
But there is only one, known to most by a different face and name,
And we belittle his purpose and importance, when we try to win him fame.

For he justifies himself, he establishes his truth with our spiritual feeling,
And he doesn’t need our self-inflicted biases to convince others of his being.
So forget the name you call him by, the face you think he is,
For God needs no validation in anyway, he is who he is.

And no one is religiously superior, though his God
May sometimes differ drastically,
For all we die and leave the same way, none was granted immortality.
And if we’d but look past the revered books that gave God his name,
We’d see that our God’s not so different after all, infact; he’s exactly the same.
